dbFlashCopy Crossplatform supports the renewal of Banco BHD León’s datawarehouse

Banco BHD León, is the second largest financial institution in the Dominican Republic in the private sector. Throughout its 50 years, it has promoted the transformation of the financial system to a universal banking model based on its values of responsibility, innovation and closeness to customers.

Since 2020, it has been working on a digital transformation agenda in a roadmap with a five-year projection to boost and streamline its services, for which technological processes are vital and important in the bank’s line of change.

Leonardo De la Cruz, Database Manager, talks about one of the projects on the agenda, the migration of the 82TB Oracle database and the Windows operating system to Linux. To do this, they reviewed several tools looking for one that would allow them to transparently and in a single execution make the migration.

dbFlashCopy Crossplatform was evaluated along with other options by the technology team. «No other tool met the approach we were looking for and it has been an excellent choice that has significantly improved the efficiency of our platform.»

In the work plan, joint actions were defined with specialists and technicians from Banco BHD León, in addition, a Project Manager assigned to the project and responsibilities were determined, this synergy allowed the project to be successfully developed and completed.

Before implementation, some adjustments and changes were made to adapt it to the specific requirements of the institution. The output to production, thanks to the implementation of dbFlashCopy Crossplatform in Banco BHD León lasted about 4 hours.

The executive mentions that they began the migration at 9 in the morning on a Saturday and at noon they had finished. «We went from physical servers, Windows OS, and database version 10g to having a virtualized server schema, Linux operating system, and Oracle database version 19c .»

He comments that dbFlashCopy Crossplatform allowed in a single execution to perform the migration avoiding the individual processes of change of infrastructure, operating system, database version in different stages of time. In addition, it generated value for the institution by reducing the time spent in some processes of the institution. Processes that took up to 22 hours, are currently performed in less than an hour. And having a data repository enabled allows business areas to quickly access information to comply with regulatory bodies.
